Built on the Bench

Becker Labs is a one-person workshop with over 40 years of experience in vintage audio restoration — specializing in McIntosh Marantz,  tube gear, speaker restoration, and the component-level repairs and full restorations.

// ORIGIN

How it started

Becker Labs started the way most repair shops do — with a pile of broken gear and a refusal to throw it away. What began as fixing personal electronics in a spare bedroom grew into a full workshop operation, with a deep focus on the vintage hi-fi equipment that defined an era of audio engineering.

McIntosh tube gear became a primary specialty early on — and has remained one for over 40 years. The MC30, MC40, MC60, MC240, MC275, C20, C22, and the full range of McIntosh tube preamplifiers and amplifiers demand a level of knowledge that only comes from decades of hands-on work. Understanding the Unity Coupled circuit topology, sourcing the right output transformers, and setting bias correctly isn't something you learn from a manual.

Speaker restoration is another cornerstone of the shop. Refoam and recone work on all types of vintage drivers — woofers, midranges, subwoofers — brings classic speakers back to life. The workshop handles everything from a single refoam to a full recone with voice coil replacement, using quality surrounds and kits matched to the original spec.

Vintage turntables, Marantz and Pioneer receivers, PCB rework, and industrial hardware round out the workload — but vintage audio and McIntosh tube gear are the heart of it.
